About Desley
Desley Solomons was born in Eton, a small sugar-cane farming town near Mackay in northern Queensland. After many years living and painting in other parts of Australia and overseas, she returned to the landscapes that first shaped her love of light and colour.
Painting since the 1970s, she works in oil, watercolour, and print, creating expressive, colourful works that reflect the rhythm and character of everyday Australian life.
Her paintings often explore familiar subjects — flowers gathered from her garden, friends and families at rest or in conversation, and landscapes shaped by tropical light and weather. The result is art that feels joyful, spontaneous, and deeply rooted in a sense of place.
During the 1990s, Desley spent time painting in Europe, particularly in Provence, where the light and landscapes inspired a new body of work and broadened her artistic perspective.
Over the decades, her work has appeared in numerous local exhibitions and collections. Her paintings continue to bring colour and vitality to the spaces where they are shown, reflecting a lifelong dedication to her craft and to the world around her.
